In the collection of the Moreira Salles Institute we identified about 60 photographs of the Rocinha favela and surroundings (mostly panoramic views) produced between the decades of 1860 and 1950. We selected 23 of these images for further investigation. The points of view that gave origin to the historic photos were mapped through field research and consultations with residents and researchers. Six of these photographs were then remade by the team, from the same point of observation, as well as video interviews with 12 residents of Rocinha and surrounding areas. In front of the old and current images they comment on the transformations of the landscape, triggering their own memories and life stories.
